Dishwashing sponge, add salt before use: the secret of housewives

The cake for dishes, how to keep it clean with salt

Did you know that thousands of germs and bacteria take less than 15 days to nest in the dishwashing sponge? For this reason  it is advisable to change the sponge frequently  , precisely to prevent fungi and bacteria from having the opportunity to settle on what we believe is a very clean instrument. But it’s not that clean. Often the stagnation of soap and water and humidity can make the classic dishwashing sponge one of the least hygienic tools we have at home. But  there is a way to avoid having to throw away a sponge that is still in good condition after just 15 days  and disinfect it in the best way possible.

First of all, it is a good habit to  always clean the sponge once you have finished washing the dishes  . The procedure to be carried out is very simple, as just rinse the sponge with running water and remove excess soap. Then put a little dish soap and white vinegar on the rough side of the suet and mix the two ingredients well, causing them to form a good lather all over the sponge. Then rinse the sponge well, wring it out and prepare your sink for what is a true routine that you must repeat frequently.

Use salt to disinfect

Place the still wet cake in the chosen container  and cover it with fine salt. Then add a little previously boiled water to completely cover the surface and let it soak for at least 15 minutes. After this time, remove the sponge from the sink and let it dry in the sun. By doing this  your sponge will be completely disinfected and free of bacteria  , germs or fungi.

To maintain good hygiene, depending on its use, it would be useful  to repeat this procedure every 15-20 days  , to always keep the dishwashing sponge adequately clean and disinfected.
