The material required is breathable, 100% natural expanded cork board, designed for durability and certified for human safety, with low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

For a successful DIY job, use panels designed for dry installation, such as CORK – SELF ZERO. These panels are easy and quick to install, either fixed with the supplied strips or adhesive. Alternatively, plasterboard, gypsum fiber boards, or even wooden slats can be used, depending on the available materials.

Effective Thickness of Cork Board for Insulation:

There are various thicknesses of cork boards useful for wall insulation. The most common are agglomerated cork boards with a thickness of 1 centimeter, suitable for external applications up to a maximum of 20 centimeters.

For interiors, a density of about 155 kg per cubic meter is recommended for optimal thermo-acoustic insulation. The thinnest yet efficient option is pressed cork rolls, which have a higher density of around 200 kg per cubic meter but are thinner, ranging from 2 to 10 millimeters.

Modern materials can also be left visible, potentially decorated with natural paints.
