Do you have an imminent move or plan to go on vacation soon? Then you do not have the opportunity to water your plants as usual. There is no need to disturb the neighbor or a member of his family. There are always simple and ingenious ways to solve this problem and ensure the survival of your beloved plants. What to travel with peace of mind!

Of course, whatever the species, watering the plants is essential to develop each stage of their growth to the best of their ability. However, as a general rule, if they receive a lot of water, they can suffer damage to the roots, but also to the stems and leaves. And conversely, if they do not receive enough, they risk drying up and dying in a short time.

Here are some clever techniques to water your plants without wasting water and without breaking the bank either. Thanks to these solutions, for several days, you will no longer need to manually water your potted plants or underground plants, including your vegetable garden. This will allow you to go on vacation or weekend without worries and without asking your loved ones for help.

How does this trick work?

At first glance, this solution may seem laborious, but rest assured that in less than 5 minutes you will be able to prepare each irrigation device. The first step is to get plastic bottles of two different sizes: you can combine half-liter bottles and 1.5-liter bottles, or 1.5-liter bottles and 3-liter bottles. Keep in mind that the larger the containers, the longer the water charge will last. Depending on your needs, get plastic containers of different sizes and follow the instructions to have your own irrigation system at zero cost and with zero environmental impact.

The advantages of this irrigation system

As you know, the warmer the temperatures, the more the plants need to be watered. With the arrival of good weather, you will love this totally automatic, very practical and free system. Each drop falls directly to the ground without being projected onto the pots, but always ending up a few centimeters from the roots. As a bonus, you can recycle plastic bottles, as well as flower pots and jars.

the filter mat

If you have a lot of houseplants in pots, you can use an even simpler method. Just place a small cloth under the plants on a flat surface. Part of the fabric must be immersed in a container filled with water, which must be placed at a lower level than where the plants are. In this way, the water will rise in the soil and thus water the plants.

The communicating siphon

Another very effective method to water your plants: the communicating siphon. You will only need a bottle if there is only one plant to water, or a larger container if there are several, and long strips of filter cloth or woolen fabric. One end of the strips should be placed in the bottom of the bucket or bottle and the other end 2-3 cm below the soil, moistening each strip well before inserting. The water container should always be placed a little higher than the pots.
