One should, in fact, prefer to favor washing dedicated only to towels. In fact, since they are already damp when we put them in the washing machine, it would be wise not to put them together with other cloths.

In addition, if the towels are white, we can wash them even at 60 degrees. In case of dark towels, if they are not delicate (or trousseau) wash them even at 50 degrees. This and other tips you can find out in this video:

Too much or too little detergent
In washing, we mistakenly put too much detergent or fabric softener: would you have ever thought that this is one of the main causes of stink?

The same thing, of course, happens even with a minimal amount of cleaning product. So, putting in too much or too little detergent is decisive for bad odors.

Adjust according to the laundry you wash, since we have said that you should not overload the washing machine, put only the necessary amount of detergent.

I will tell you more, you can permanently cancel the use of fabric softener by replacing it with vinegar and essential oils or other remedies suggested here:

Dirty washing machine
Sometimes, however, the reason for the musty smell on towels is not the laundry, but the dirty washing machine.

You may know that this household appliance collects a lot of limestone during each wash, which then settles in the drum.

So it’s good to remove the scale by implementing an empty wash cycle with 1 liter of water and 150 grams of citric acid.

How not to make towels stink
After understanding why machine-washed towels stink, let’s see together how to remedy it and stop having bad odors.

Using vinegar
This will not be the first time you see vinegar as a remedy for various problems in the washing machine. This natural element has excellent softening properties.

Using vinegar for towels will make them soft and eliminate any odors present even before washing.

Put a small cup of vinegar in the washing machine tub and start a wash just for the towels.

You will see that you will solve the problem in no time! In addition, if you also add 3 or 4 drops of essential oil to the cup of vinegar, you can say goodbye to fabric softener!

Let it dry thoroughly
Another trick for towels and in general for laundry that always smells good is to let them dry well!

If you store damp towels in the cabinet, the water will not yet evaporate and they will remain indoors in the closet, creating unpleasant odors.

Even if you are sometimes tempted to fold them right away to put them away, always make sure they are well dried!

Reduce humidity
Finally, you should know that humidity is often the enemy of scent on laundry and in the home!

This advice is particularly aimed at those who have their laundry dried inside the home or at times of the year when you are forced to do so, given the climate.

To reduce humidity, run a dehumidifier in the house throughout the drying time. Of course, not everyone has one, but you can make DIY dehumidifiers.
