How to Stop Paint Peeling

The first thing to do is to check for leaks, gaps, old paint and the quality of ventilation in your home. It’s likely that you’ll need to repaint to improve the situation, but the problem may recur if you don’t fix the mentioned issues first. If you can resolve these, then you can prepare your home for a fresh coat of paint.

SCRAP THE CHIPING PAINT
You will need to remove as much of the old peeling paint as possible with a paint scraper so that the underlying surface is clean when you apply the new paint. If you don’t do this, you will have loose paint particles underneath your wet paint, which will affect the quality of the finish and could start to peel within a short period of time.

Using a paint scraper can be time-consuming, but it will be worth it in the end because you’ll have removed all the loose paint and ensure you’re starting with a clean surface. If you can’t get rid of all the underlying paint, remove the flaking parts and clean the rest with sugar soap to make the surface as clean as possible.
